12 Ft. Extension With Awesome Outdoor Kitchen
On this existing porch, we added a 12-foot extension with awesome outdoor kitchen for this homeowner in Satellite Beach, Florida. We built a porch extension a few years ago in Indialantic, Florida, and the homeowner later added a kitchen to the porch.
We are often asked to build or extend an existing porch so the homeowner can install an outdoor kitchen themselves. We provide the structure, which requires a contractor, and the homeowners make the underside personal, either an outdoor kitchen or a larger seating area.
How We Added a 12 Ft. Extension With Awesome Outdoor Kitchen
We began by removing the palm tree to make room for the additional 12 feet of length to the existing porch for this 12 Ft. Extension With Awesome Outdoor Kitchen. Then we poured the slab with footers. Notice also the demo drain for the pool slash water to drain away.
We installed 6×6 pressure-treated posts with stainless steel post bottoms. We wrapped the post with white PVC because it is more substantial and adds character to the new porch when finished. No need to paint the posts ever.
The old ceiling was drywall, which, under Florida’s humidity, causes the drywall tape to peel and the drywall texture to pop off. So we removed the old drywall ceiling and installed insulation with vinyl soffit material for the ceiling finish. The vinyl provides a clean, maintenance-free surface that requires cleaning only once every 10 years or so with a hose. In addition to the low-maintenance ceiling, we installed wood-grain PVC on the beams and posts.
We built the porch to tie into the existing porch roof, keeping everything at the same height. The new roof material consisted of a self-adhered base and cap sheet that met wind-pressure requirements for flat roofs. We then reinstalled the roof tiles we had set aside for reuse. The homeowners chose the pavers’ color, which complemented their decor. We kept the new concrete slab below the pool decking, so that all the pavers finished at the same height as the pool deck.
The Right Contractor
Most companies called to add a 12-foot extension with an awesome outdoor kitchen will only know how to do the roof, while another may know how to install underneath. Many will not give a proposal unless the homeowner has a print or drawing from an architect. Very few companies are qualified to provide remodeling anymore or have the experience. We at Florida Roofing and Renovations are perfectly licensed and experienced to provide the many trades required to add additional space to homes. One of the reasons the owner of Florida Roofing and Renovations does roofing and renovations together is to provide services that add living space while actually knowing how to tie the room and roof together.
The comment we hear consistently is that companies will provide the porch structure or enclosure, but they do not know how to connect it to the house roof. Or they are only licensed to provide one or the other. Across Brevard, examples of aluminum enclosures attached to the house facsia rather than the exterior wall demonstrate a lack of knowledge and experience.
It is aesthetically unappealing, with the porch ceiling stopping at the fascia and the overhang soffit inside the porch room. Anyone who has this condition knows exactly what this issue is. We have the skills to install porch roofs correctly, and they will look nice.
The Items Used In 12-foot Extension With Awesome Outdoor Kitchen
The homeowner designed his kitchen area first with concrete counters and, in between, a BBQ grill, a flat blackstone grill, a small refrigerator, and plenty of storage space with drawers. They also added three ceiling fans, a wall-mounted TV, and the final touch was hanging lights on the inside of the beams, which creates a cozy atmosphere at night. Now the owner can enjoy friends and family over to watch games while having a great cookout, eating and drinking, all without ever leaving the porch or swimming pool. Summer days and nights bring it on.
