Florida Roofing and Renovation Inc. has protected Brevard County homes since 2008, but the experience behind the company reaches back much further. Founded by veteran roofer Michael Smith, the company brings more than forty years of hands-on knowledge to every project, from full roof replacements to home renovations and commercial flat roofs up to three stories.
As a Florida state certified contractor, Florida Roofing and Renovation Inc. is licensed to work anywhere in the state, and it holds every job to a standard that goes beyond code, not just up to it. The focus has never changed: quality materials, quality workmanship, and honest guidance that homeowners can trust.

Every roof the company installs is built for Florida’s heat, salt air, and hurricane season, not simply to pass inspection. On every project, Florida Roofing and Renovation Inc. lays a self-adhered underlayment that bonds tightly to the roof deck, so even if the surface above is ever damaged, water stays out of the home.
During the double hurricanes of 2004, one of the company’s roofs was left stripped to just that self-adhered underlayment, with no shingles yet in place, and it rode out both storms without leaking or coming loose. That result is exactly why the company will not install a roof with only felt or a mechanically fastened synthetic, which can tear away in high winds.
The company installs Atlas shingles with Scotchgard protection, which resist algae and stay clean for years, and it uses aluminum rather than galvanized metal in coastal salt air, right down to the drip edge, because galvanized rusts. Every detail is chosen to last.

Few roofing companies bring this depth of experience. Across his career, founder Michael Smith has completed somewhere between 8,000 and 9,000 roofs and built roughly 500 homes, and since 2008 Florida Roofing and Renovation Inc. has completed more than 4,000 roofs of its own. That experience spans far more than shingles, including tile, metal, renovations, and commercial flat roofs.
It also means the company sees what less experienced roofers miss. On one condominium project, the team uncovered a previous contractor’s work where shingles had been laid over old shingles, rotten wood had been covered up, and flashing had been buried where it never belonged. In cases like these, the company documents everything and lays out the homeowner’s options clearly, so decisions are made with the full picture in view.

On price, the company aims to be fair, rather than the cheapest or the most expensive. The lowest bids almost always cut something, whether it is the materials, the labor, or the workmanship, and that is not how this company operates. Throughout every project, homeowners receive before, during, and after photos along with clear explanations, so they always know exactly what was done and why. That same care shows in the crew: on a recent job, a homeowner singled out a crew member who checked in on her and her mother throughout the day and made sure they felt comfortable in their own home.
Michael Smith
Michael Smith has been roofing since he was 14 years old and has not worked for anyone but himself since 1980. In 1990 he earned his Florida state certified license, one of the most demanding in the trade, and in 2008 he founded Florida Roofing and Renovation Inc. to build roofs the way he always believed they should be built.
He started the company for a reason that still drives it today. After years of watching other contractors cut corners, and seeing how often Florida’s seniors and retirees were taken advantage of because they could not climb up to inspect the work themselves, he set out to do things differently, documenting every roof and sitting down with homeowners to show them exactly what was happening.

His standard is a simple one: if it were his own mother’s house, would he leave it this way? If not, it gets fixed. In recent years he deliberately scaled the company back from its busiest period to focus on personal attention and quality over volume, and he has spent years training his on-site lead to carry that same standard forward.
