Damaged Utility Wall Crushed By A Car
Florida Roofing and Renovations was called to repair a damaged utility wall crushed by a Car. We are known for taking on the difficult jobs that others will not. A prior client referred us to replace a block utility wall that was accidentally damaged by the owner, who panicked and inadvertently increased the gas pressure, causing the block wall to be pushed into the utility room by up to six inches in some areas.
The photos show the process that Florida Roofing and Renovations took to remove and install two new block walls. This post describes the steps we took to restore the utility room to its normal condition. Hoping that someone in need of our expertise will learn about the process we used to repair a homeowner’s damage quickly and unobtrusively.
Steps To Repair A Damaged Utility Wall Crushed By A Car
- We assessed the damage and determined which walls needed to be removed to facilitate structural rebuilding. We prepare the area to prevent damage to both the inside and outside rooms. We also built a support wall to support the roof while removing the damaged utility wall that was hit by the car.
- Once we knew the roof was fully supported, we began removing the block walls. The carport pictures show the pile of debris from the block walls. Then the existing house walls required grinding the remaining block off in preparation for the new block walls.
- Now that all necessary material has been removed, including the ceiling inside. We are now able to install new block walls. We installed 5/8″ rebar dowels into the existing block wall that protruded out and into the new block wall we installed. These will ensure the wall stays in place and becomes an integral part of the house wall. As though it never happened.
- The roof needed to be cut out over the new block walls to pour the block downpours and install the wall lintels. We installed hurricane straps into the freshly poured lintel for the roof strapping. Required by code in all building departments. An inspection called uplift.
- The attached photos also show where we repaired the roof after the concrete was poured.
- Photos show the new exterior door installed. The door hardware was new and installed on the existing door from the house into the utility room for safety until we finished enclosing the room. Once we were done, we moved the new handle and deadbolt to the new door.
- Finishing touches were painting the walls the existing house color, and inside, a basic white interior paint was used.
- Clean up and a final building inspection to finish this project. To a very happy homeowner.
